JOIN REDMOND!The City of Redmond delivers high quality services to our community, and we are looking to supplement our staff. The City has various supplemental employment opportunities ranging from one-time projects, on-call work, on-going part-time, and seasonal full-time assignments.

The Working Student will safely and enthusiastically assist either the Equestrian Instructors or Farm School Instructors in their daily classes and care of ponies and farm animals.

Assignment Hours and Duration:

Scheduled annual hours are limited to 1040 hours per calendar year. Scheduled hours will strictly adhere to Washington State Labor Laws regarding workers of this age. Hours will also vary by season and necessity.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrate your commitment to service, integrity, accountability and welcoming attitude when you:

  • Assist in programs, camps, routine equine and animal management and care.
  • Assist in programs for both children and adults in both English and Western disciplines following our set curriculum guidelines which may include riding time, classroom time and craft projects.
  • Recognize basic health and behavior problems of horses and know how to safely handle and care for the animals.
  • Assist in feeding, stall cleaning, and maintenance as needed.
  • The Working Student may get the ongoing opportunity to school horses with the Instructors and receive additional guidance and training as deemed necessary in both handling, care and riding.

Preferred Knowledge of and Skill in:

  •  All domestic farm animals and livestock.
  •  Proper care and use of riding equipment.
  •  Proper and safe equine handling skills.

Preferred Abilities:

  • Help organize and teach classes for both children and adults in both English and Western disciplines.
  •  Comfortable helping with the organization of volunteer jobs and activities.
  •  Enforce department policies and procedures.
  •  Represent the City of Redmond in accordance to policy at all times.
  •  Follow written and verbal instructions.
  •  Communicate effectively.

 

QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Experience, Licenses and Requirements:

  • Enrolled and attending high school. Must be minimum 16 years of age.
  • Developing basic MS Office skills (email, Internet Explorer, Word).
  • Knowledge of all domestic farm animals and livestock preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper care and use of riding equipment preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with 1-year experience as a Farrel-McWhirter volunteer or participant in the equestrian lesson program.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain current First Aid and CPR Training Certification by start date, preferred.
  • COVID-19 vaccination verification is required to be furnished upon job offer, absent an approved accommodation.
